Last month, we participated in the nationwide ‘Know Your Numbers Week’ by hosting a Blood Pressure Awareness Day. The primary aim of this initiative was to encourage individuals over 40 who haven’t been diagnosed with high blood pressure to get checked for free.
High blood pressure, often referred to as the “silent killer,” typically shows no symptoms but is responsible for over half of all heart attacks and strokes. Alarmingly, it occurs in about one in three adults. A reduction of just 10mmHg in systolic pressure can lead to a 20% decrease in the risk of these life-threatening conditions. This underscores the importance of regular blood pressure monitoring, especially for those in higher-risk groups.
Poundbury Pharmacist – Sarah remarked, “Not only were we able to check more people than usual, but we also managed to raise awareness among patients and staff! We got everyone involved, from the counter staff to encouraging our wholesaler drivers to have a quick check-up.” This enthusiastic participation highlighted the commitment of the entire team to promote better health practices.
The event was a tremendous success, with record numbers of checks performed, including patients and staff members. A big thank you goes out to everyone who participated and helped make the day impactful!
If you are over 40 and haven’t been tested yet, we encourage you to drop in and ask a member of our staff for a quick check-up. Your health matters and taking proactive steps can make a significant difference!
